Emacsvox is a keyboard-driven spoken environment built on Emacs. You can use it to read and write text, browse the Web, manage mail and messaging, work in shells, program, and explore structured information through speech and sound.
Emacsvox requires Emacs 30.2 or newer and is derived from Emacspeak. Emacspeak’s pioneering audio-desktop design and T. V. Raman’s original work remain the foundation of this project.
Emacsvox works with Emacs commands and the structure of each application. It speaks the text you reach and announces relevant changes, rather than reading a screenful of characters indiscriminately. Distinctive voices mark structure; short sounds can identify an event without adding a spoken label.
