8.12.1 Walkthrough: Switch Reading And Working Setups

Use unused names and note the selected profile first.

  1. Open C-e H p p. For a restore point, N saves before-demo with a short purpose and selects it. This captures resource/option choices, not rule, resource-definition, or engine backups.
  2. Use C-e H v p and C-e H o p to activate your reading palette and sound pack. Choose Presentation Options at C-e H r f and spatial settings at C-e H o n. Return through each view’s own navigation before opening the next. In profiles, save reading-setup-demo with N.
  3. Choose a different palette or pack and save working-setup-demo. RET describes each profile’s saved fields.
  4. Apply the reading profile with a and repeat familiar feedback. Inspect active resources in their managers, then apply the working profile to compare.
  5. Change a live option without updating the profile. Diverged indicates the difference. a restores saved values and w replaces them with current choices; read confirmation before discarding either intention.
  6. Finish on the profile wanted at startup, because applying saves its selection too. Restore the original or before-demo when finished. Delete unwanted demo profiles with d only after selecting the retained one.

If both profiles use reading-demo, edits to that palette affect both. For independent voices, Copy Palette and select different resources. A profile’s Copy action copies selections only. To change startup palette while preserving other profile fields, use U in Voice Palettes rather than recapturing everything.
