8.12.3 Export, Back Up, And Import Palettes

w in Voice Palettes exports effective portable entries, asking before omitting machine-local choices. W backs up full ancestry and referenced local choices. i imports either as an independent personal palette under an unused name; it neither replaces ancestry nor activates the result. Missing installed voices are reported and retained for replacement. Partial import retains its proposal for Retry or Discard.

For practice, export reading-demo with w, review omitted choices, and import as reading-import-demo. Enter and preview before activating. An unavailable retained choice is a review request, not proof of audio. Delete the imported copy when no profile, child, or rule needs it; the original is unchanged.

Use W when local choice data and ancestry matter. Import still creates a new independent palette, not an overwrite. Neither export contains engines or sound-pack audio, and neither is a backup of every Emacsvox setting.
