16.2 Edit and rearrange text
¶
Hear exactly what I selected
: establish point and mark and inspect the newline boundary before an operation.
Copy text into another document
: keep the source intact and check the insertion and kill-ring contents at the destination.
Move a paragraph
: cut a checked passage and verify both its old and new positions, including blank lines.
Paste something I copied earlier
: distinguish the kill-ring chooser from replacing the last yank with an earlier entry.
Undo and listen between corrections
: use the right buffer’s undo history without accidentally redoing earlier undos.
Copy between Emacs and another application
: test the clipboard boundary without assuming that Windows, WSL and terminal sessions work identically.
Replace only the occurrences I choose
: limit the operation to a checked region and review each proposed change before saving.
