16.3 Change voices and sounds ¶

• Choose which voice or feedback setting to change: compare a shared voice edit, a matching rule, a palette-wide change and an engine preference.
• Change my ordinary reading voice: work with the palette’s default named voice. Preview, saving, live selection, and startup selection are distinct.
• Change the voice used for headings: practise with a temporary buffer rule before making a wider change.
• Try an installed voice without saving anything: follow the listening exercise through the current settings menus and return to your source.
• Choose a preferred speech engine: change engine preference rather than assuming that a palette edit changes every engine-selection policy.
• Find and install another voice: distinguish availability, downloaded files, enablement, and application to the running speech workers.
• Replace or silence one unwanted sound: target the cue you want to change rather than disabling all auditory icons.
