8.6.2 Walkthrough: Inheritance, Aliases, And Reset

Use reading-demo from the previous exercise or another personal palette with acss-default as parent.

  1. In the manager, create reading-child-demo with N and choose reading-demo as parent. The chain becomes reading-child-demo -> reading-demo -> acss-default.
  2. Inspect bolden’s Source in the child. A direct entry in reading-demo supplies the whole voice; otherwise acss-default does. O opens its provider and u shows known uses, aliases, and descendants.
  3. voice-bolden is an alias of bolden, not a separate adjustable entry. Aliases are not created or edited in this view.
  4. Copy bolden in the child with c to an unused name, such as reading-heading-demo. Change pitch, compare, and save to the collection without selecting. A rule must choose this name before ordinary content uses it; copying does not remap headings.
  5. Edit the child’s inherited bolden, change a field, and save to the collection. Its Source becomes the child. Back in the list, press R. Confirmation names the parent entry that will take over. After confirming, bolden remains but its Source returns to the provider.
  6. Delete reading-heading-demo with d when it has no inherited replacement or known use. Remove/remap a referencing rule first. Reset restores an inherited entry; Delete removes a removable custom name.

The root keeps standard voices available after Reset and cannot be deleted or edited here. Palettes can contain custom names, and loaded integrations can register more standard names. Copy Palette differs from New Palette: it copies effective entries and stops following edits to the source while still inheriting new standard names from acss-default. Definitions referring to an existing personality still follow that personality’s settings. A copy is not a sound recording.
