r in the voice list renames a direct custom voice in a personal palette. Entering the new name saves it with its settings, physical choices, and tuning intact. Finish/discard voice drafts first. Standard names cannot be renamed; copy one for a custom entry. An inherited voice must be copied or renamed in its owning palette.
Renaming updates personal, session, and buffer rules, face mappings, and loaded global/buffer face maps. Personal rules and the voice are saved together; a failure leaves the old name and mappings usable. Update face mappings written in your Lisp configuration there too for future sessions. Maintained integration rules, Presentation Options, and other voice definitions can block a rename until their references are updated. Another palette directly defining either name also blocks it because mappings are shared.
In Voice Palettes, r renames a personal palette and saves immediately. It retains settings and fallback tuning, updates children and personal Presentation Profiles, and keeps an active palette selected under its new name. Finish/discard unfinished voice edits first. Built-ins cannot be renamed, and maintained integration references can block the change until their owner updates them.
